During 2007 Taiyuan Iron & Steel Co., Ltd (TISCO) increased its production capacity to 10 million mt of steel, with actual finished steel production in 2007 rising 48.36 percent year on year. Last year, the mill broke its historical record for stainless steel production, which grew 82.55 percent to more than two million mt. TISCO has thus become the largest stainless steel producer in the world, and posted overall sales revenues in 2007 exceeding RMB 100 billion ($13.9 billion).

TISCO's strategic target for 2008 is to become the top-ranking research center for stainless steel production in China and to develop 20 key technologies with independent intellectual property rights. TISCO expects to register 1,000 invention patents by the end of the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan" period (2007-2012).
