Germany-based engineering company and steelmaker ThyssenKrupp announced on May 25 that its
stainless flat steel producing subsidiary ThyssenKrupp Nirosta has received a contract to supply 100 metric tons of
stainless steel for the
construction of the new international airport in the capital of
Qatar, Doha. The supplied
stainless steel will be used for the facade of the new passenger terminal, which will be mainly glass interspersed with
stainless steel.
Produced at the company's Krefeld and Dillenburg plants, the Nirosta 4404
stainless steel will be supplied in a thickness of ten millimeters with linen and new microlinen finishes.
When it opens in mid-2011, the airport will be able to handle roughly 24 million passengers a year. Further expansion phases will increase this number to 50 million by 2050.
