Thailand may eliminate tariffs to boost competitiveness

The Thai Cabinet yesterday approved tax measures, including those that lower import tariffs for certain sectors, the Finance Ministry reported. New tax measures are expected to boost the country's competitiveness. In line with the new tax measures approved by the Thai government, import tariffs for certain products, including steel and chemical products will be eliminated, the Finance Ministry said. The tariff exemption will reportedly be in effect as of January 1, 2006, till 2011.
