In June this year, Turkey’s steel imports decreased by 2.6 percent to 1.2 million mt, while the value of these imports moved up by 14 percent to $1.1 billion, both year on year, as announced by the Turkish Steel Producers' Association (TCUD).
In the month of June, Turkey’s semi-finished steel imports increased by 20.3 percent to 343,000 mt, while its flat steel imports fell by 10.7 percent to 646,000 mt, both compared to the same month of the previous year. In June, total long steel product imports were down by four percent to 113,000 mt, year on year.
In June, Turkey's steel export volume was equivalent to 126 percent of its steel import volume, compared to 113 percent in the same month of 2017.
In the first half of this year, the country’s steel imports increased by 14.7 percent to 8.7 million mt and the value of these imports went up by 31.4 percent to $7.3 billion, both on year-on-year basis.
In the January-June period of this year, Turkey’s semi-finished imports rose by 37 percent to 3.1 million mt, while its flat steel imports increased by 4.6 percent to 4.3 million mt, both year on year. In the same period, Turkey’s long steel imports totaled 758,000 mt, rising by 12.2 percent year on year.
In the given period, Turkey's steel export volume was equivalent to 111 percent of its steel import volume, compared to 121 percent in the same period of 2017.
