The world's sixth largest steelmaker, Tata Steel Ltd., has announced that it will start construction work in November on its planned integrated steel plant in Orissa state, which will have an annual capacity of six million metric tons.

Commenting on the greenfield steel plant to be built at the Kalinga Nagar Industrial Complex, Tata Steel Ltd. managing director B. Muthuraman said, ""We have asked for iron ore mines from the Orissa government and hope to get them soon".

Although B. Muthuraman stated that they were hopeful concerning the company's request to the Orissa government for iron ore mines, the government has not yet taken a decision. This is because a number of companies planning to build plants in the state in question, such as POSCO, have also expressed an interest in acquiring iron ore mines.
