Hebei Province-based Chinese steelmaker Tangshan Iron and Steel Co., a subsidiary of Hebei Iron and Steel Group, has announced that in August this year it produced 184,700 mt high strength rebar, up 20 percent year on year. Meanwhile, the high strength rebar volume accounted for 80 percent of the company's total rebar output in the given month.

At the beginning of this year, China's Housing Construction Department and Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) jointly issued guidance in order to accelerate the application of high strength rebar. Accordingly, by the end of 2013, 335 MPa grade steel rebar will be eliminated in the construction and by the end of 2015, high strength rebar production is planned to account for 80 percent of the total output of steel rebar in China, while the application of high strength rebar in construction is expected to reach more than 65 percent of the total rebar used in construction. In accordance with the requirements, Chinese steelmakers increased high strength rebar percentage in their output.
