Taiwan’s industrial production rises for twelfth straight month in August

Taiwan's industrial production index in August this year climbed by 23.4 percent as compared to August 2009, after rising by a revised 20.93 percent year on year to a record level in July, and was down 0.5 percent month on month, according to the country's Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA). In August, Taiwan's monthly industrial output increased for the twelfth straight month on year-on-year basis.

In August this year, industrial output in basic metal manufacturing increased by 36.13 percent and output of metal product manufacturing surged by 29.19 percent, both compared with August 2009. The respective month-on-month increase rates were registered at 1.25 percent and 2.81 percent.

Meanwhile, in August, production in Taiwan's machinery and equipment industry rose by 68.42 percent, output in the automotive industry increased by 28.34 percent, while production in the Taiwanese construction sector declined by 6.08 percent, all compared to August 2009.
