Sweden’s SSAB partners with Stena Metall for scrap supply

Swedish specialty steel producer SSAB has announced that it has signed an agreement with domestic recycling company Stena Metall for the supply of scrap metal for its operations.

As part of the cooperation, Stena will supply recycled scrap metal from its recycling center in Halmstad to SSAB’s new electric furnace (EAF) at Oxelösund that is currently under construction. This way, use of recycled steel in Sweden will increase, further contributing to decarbonization efforts.

In the meantime, the duo is planning the first deliveries to coincide with the start-up of SSAB’s EAF in Oxelösund, which is scheduled toward the end of 2026. The scrap metal will be mainly delivered by train.
