Swedish specialty steel producer SSAB has announced that it has entered into a partnership with Sweden-based steel service company BE Group to identify significant new demands and opportunities for fossil-free steel in the Baltic markets. The companies aim to contribute to a fossil-free value chain.

The partnership will meet BE Group customers’ technical and sustainability needs, while it will help SSAB to better plan upcoming production runs for specific grades of fossil-free steels.

SSAB said it aims to deliver fossil-free steel to the market on a commercial scale during 2026 and to largely eliminate carbon emissions from its operations in around 2030.
