Steel workers protest unfair dismissals

According to latest industry reports, hundreds of steel workers have shattered windows of ruling party offices and blocked a major road on October 27, 2003 to protest thousands of unfair dismissals in Romania. About 400 workers were protesting dismissals as a result of state owned Hunedoara steel plant's sale to LNM this week. Under the scope of the sale, 2'700 workers have lost their jobs. Union officials expressed that, 4'400 workers are employed at the steel plant in Hunedoara. Union leaders is going to meet with LNM and government privatization agency officials to discuss terms on November 3, 2003.
