Star Steel builds new plant in UAE

In an interview with SteelOrbis, Mr. Abdul Raziq, executive director of Star Steel International LLC, a subsidiary of Dubai's ETA-Ascon group, disclosed that the company has started construction works at its new steel mill in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The new plant, which will be located in Fujairah, has a designed annual capacity of 800,000 metric tons of billets and blooms.

Star Steel, which invested about $100 million in the plant, is expecting to put it into operation in the middle of 2009.

Regarding the targeted sales markets, Mr. Raziq specified that two thirds of all products to be produced at the new mill would be supplied to the local market while the remaining one third would be exported.
