Spanish crude steel output down 15 percent in April

According to the Spanish steelmakers association Unesid, in April this year Spanish crude steel output totaled 1.24 million mt, down 15 percent year on year. The production decrease in April was in line with the trend recorded in the first quarter, when a year-on-year drop of 15.1 percent was observed.

In the 12 months up to April, Spanish crude steel production amounted to 14.7 million mt, while in 2011 it totaled 15.3 million mt.

Finally, Unesid stated that in the January-February period this year Spanish electric arc furnaces smelted 2.1 million mt of ferrous scrap.
