South Africa is pleased with the US plates sunset review

Upon the US International Trade Commission's (ITC) announcement of its decision to conduct sunset reviews for carbon steel plates anti-dumping duties from South Africa together with Ukraine, China and Russia, the South African Chamber of Business (Sacob) expressed that it welcomes the decision. The five year review is seen as good news for the South African steel industry as it raised the probability of increasing exports into the US. Currently many South African steel products are subject to duties by the US, in order to penalise alleged unfair trade practices. Products of stainless plate in coil, certain pipe and hot rolled flat products are bound to anti-dumping and countervailing duties, depending on the cases. Furthermore, South African cut-to-length carbon steel plate is subject to a suspension agreement, and therefore in each quarter, the price level for the specific product is determined by the US Department of Commerce (DOC) for the South African exporters' transactions.
