Germany-based plantmaker SMS Group has announced that its subsidiary SMS Concast has revamped a continuous casting machine for India-based steel producer Aarti Steels Ltd in order to ensure the production of new types of billets.

According to SMS, with a casting radius of nine meters, the two-strand continuous casting machine is rated for a capacity of 200,000 mt per year. Before the modernization, the casting machine had cast section sizes of 125 mm, 160 mm and 200 mm square. Together with the revamp of the technological part of the continuous casting machine, namely the hydraulic oscillation equipment, the secondary cooling system and the withdrawal and straightening unit, the bloom section sizes of 240 mm x 280 mm and 250 mm x 320 mm were newly introduced.
