German plantmaker SMS Meer has announced that it will revamp the NYS No. 1 steel rolling mill of US-based Nucor-Yamato Steel Company.

Within the scope of the order, SMS Meer will supply the rolling mill equipment which will enable the rolling of wider sheet piling products. The revamp will include installation of a new three-stand finishing mill and two more stands allowing the production of wide sheet piles and contributing to increase the productivity and quality of beam production.

The installation of the new equipment is expected to be completed in early 2014.

Nucor-Yamato Steel, a joint venture between US-based Nucor Corporation and Japan's Yamato Kogyo, operates two mills in Blytheville, Arkansas for medium and heavy sections. The steel mill No. 1 was originally installed in 1987.
