German plantmaker SMS Demag has announced that it has received an order from Netherlands-based steelmaker Corus Staal BV for the supply of an X-Melt 330-ton twin ladle furnace and a stirring station for the IJmuiden iron and steel plant in North Holland.

Through this comprehensive modernization project, Corus Staal plans to expand its range of quality grades. The order in question comprises the supply and installation of the mechanical, X-Pact electrical and automation systems, including the technological process models.

The ladle furnace and the stirring station will be erected in the existing oxygen steelworks while production continues. The commissioning of the complete secondary steelmaking unit is scheduled for the summer of 2009.
