Germany-based global plant construction and mechanical engineering company SMS Group (SMS), a part of the SMS GmbH holding, has announced that one of its subsidiaries, Swiss plantmaker SMS Concast AG has received an order for a vacuum degassing plant (VD/VOD) facility with mechanical pumps from Brazilian capital goods manufacturer Dedini S/A Indústrias de Base for its Piracicaba steelworks.

According to a statement released by SMS, the new plant ordered by Dedini, which will treat carbon steel, low alloy and stainless steel grades, will be operated together with an existing arc furnace with a conventional tapping spout. The layout of the plant makes provision for a ladle furnace for later retrofitting. The liquid steel produced will be cast into blooms and castings.

It is intended that the VD/VOD facility will be commissioned at the end of March 2010. The financial details of the order have not been disclosed.
