German steelmaker ThyssenKrupp has announced that its subsidiary ThyssenKrupp Nirosta took part in three major projects that were recently completed in the US, i.e., for a tower in Portland and two skyscrapers in Chicago. The company manufactured the material for the stainless steel elements which were then processed by Germany-based Christian Pohl GmbH and delivered to North America.
The ‘Blue Cross-Blue Shield Tower' project in Chicago involved adding further stories to the existing building and some 22 metric tons of stainless steel were used for the 226-meter, 54-storey office tower.
Roughly 24 metric tons of linen-finish stainless steel were used to clad column elements in the 195-meter, 45-storey building on North Wacker Drive in downtown Chicago.
The 81-meter residential tower in Portland, Oregon features facade panels of stainless steel. ThyssenKrupp Nirosta supplied some 36 metric tons of Nirosta 4401 stainless steel for the exterior of the building.
