Smorgon picks farmers’ scrap
Australia's largest scrap metal recycling steel maker Smorgon Steel found an interesting way to supply scrap steel. Setting off from the idea that there could be up to a million ton of scrap metal on the farms of Australia, the company started the Great Steel Scrap Round-Up. The company buys any kind of unused machines including old tractors, harvesters, fencing wire, roofing materials, and anything that's metallic from the farmers. The company managers say the farmers would be offered a reasonable price for the scrap steel they bring in. Smorgon will also donate A$15 ($11.6) to the local fire brigade for every ton of scrap bought. Smorgon will make the payments to the farmers in cash or Smorgon Steel Bucks worth $120 for every $100 worth of steel sold. Farmers can use Smorgon Steel Bucks to buy steel fencing and other supplies from Smorgon's distribution network.Smorgon picks farmers' scrap
