Slab caster SMS Siemag supplied to SAIL put into operation

German plantmaker SMS Siemag has announced that the slab caster it has supplied to Indian steelmaker Steel Authority of India Ltd's (SAIL) Tamil Nadu, India-based subsidiary Salem Steel Plant has been successfully put into operation.

The single-strand X-Cast® slab caster will be sued for the production of slabs of various stainless-steel grades with thicknesses of 140 to 200 mm and widths of 600 to 1,300 mm at a maximum casting speed of 1.5 m/min. The unit is designed to produce 300,000 mt of slabs per year.

The SMS Siemag supply scope comprised the provision of the complete caster including all equipment for utilities as well as the complete X-Pact® electrical and automation package inclusive of the process models.
