Siemens VAI receives wire rod outlet order from China’s Handan Steel

Austria-based giant engineering and plantmaking company Siemens VAI Metals Technologies has announced the receipt of an order from Chinese steelmaker Handan Iron and Steel Corporation, a subsidiary of Hebei Iron and Steel Group, to supply a wire rod outlet for a rolling mill at its Handan Works.

Accordingly, the new equipment will enable Handan to produce rods from 5 mm to 22 mm in diameter, with the capability of expand to 25 mm, and also rebar from 6 mm to 16 mm. Products will include standard high carbon and alloy steel, bearing steel and spring steel. Depending on the product mix, the mill will produce approximately 700,000 mt per year for both domestic and overseas markets.

The new mill should start operation by the end of 2010, enabling the company to enter markets for high-end products.
