Siemens Group Industrial Solutions and Services (I&S) has announced that it has received a major order from Indian steelmaker Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) for the supply of equipment for the new cold rolling mill of the Bokaro steel plant in Jharkand city in India.
Siemens will use turnkey process technology to equip the new steel plant. The new cold rolling mill will have an annual capacity of 1.3 million metric tons per year. The value of the order exceeds a three-digit million euro figure. The plant is scheduled to start production in 2010.
The contract in question includes the design, engineering, supply, installation and commissioning of the core lines of the new cold mill plant. The cold rolling mill will consist of a coupled tandem line, a hot dip galvanized line and an electrolytic strip cleaning line.
Having an annual crude steel production output exceeding 13 million mt, SAIL is the largest steel producer in India. It has five integrated iron and steel plants at Bhilai, Durgapur, Rourkela, Bokaro and Burnpur, and four plants at Salem, Durgapur, Bhadravati and Chandrapur. SAIL is investing no less than Rupee 25 billion (around €40 million) in the construction of the new cold rolling mill.
