Siam United Steel purchases HR steel from local mill SSI

Recent reports reveal that Siam United Steel (SUS), is going to purchase hot rolled sheet for its cold rolling line in compliance with Thai Ministry of Commerce' decision taken to settle the dispute over anti-dumping duties implemented back in May this year on hot rolled steel sheet imports. SUS plans to purchase 190'000 tons of hot rolled steel sheet from Thai mill Sahaviraya Steel Ind. (SSI) to meet its feedstock requirements for the rest of 2003, together with imports of subject material from Japan and South Africa. According to the ruling of the Ministry of Commerce, Japanese based cold rolling mills operating in Thailand namely, SUS and Thai Cold Rolled Steel have to supply minimum 55% of their raw material from domestic hot rolled steel producers and stop aforementioned imports by 2007.
