Shougang Steel to raise crude steel output capacity to 30 million mt by 2012

Zhu Jimin, president of Chinese steelmaker Shougang Iron and Steel Group (Shougang Steel), has stated that the group plans to raise its annual production capacity of crude steel to 30 million mt by 2012.

In addition, Mr. Zhu announced that the main part of the first stage of its Jingtang Steel project has just been completed. The designed production capacity of the first stage of the Jingtang Steel project is 9.7 million mt of high quality steel.

The project includes a blast furnace which has the largest capacity in China, i.e., 5,500 cubic meters, with a daily output of 12,000 mt. The principal product of the facilities in question is high quality steel plate used in the automotive, shipbuilding, bridge building, pipeline, boiler, appliance and structural building sectors.
