Sheet plant of Corus progresses well towards targets

According to the recent report released from Anglo-Dutch mill Corus Steel, the company's direct sheet plant (DSP) in IJmuiden works is making good progress towards its year-end targets. For instance, coil production in July is recorded as 90'000 tons with an increase by 28.5% compared with the same month of last year. For 2003, the year-end target is more than 100'000 tons per month. After installation of the new equipment and technology, the plant aims to reduce sheet thickness. The company is planning to reduce current carbon steel of 1.2mm to 1.00 by the end of year, in accordance with the customers' requests. For high-strength low-alloy steel, targeted thickness is 1.2mm, which is currently produced as 1.5mm. It is also stated that, DSP has the capacity to produce coils up to 1560mm, whereas the coils are currently produced as 1530mm.
