A project entitled ‘Port, warehouse and transportation information management system, research and development' of Chinese steelmaker Jiangsu-based Shagang Group has recently been approved by a specialist panel from the Information and Statistics Department of the China Iron and Steel Association (CISA). The specialists agreed that the project was within the guidelines set by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. They also considered the project investment to be worthwhile, commending the avanced technology and economic impact.
The project integrates Shagang Group total logistics business, including port unloading, raw materials stocking, product delivery and port uploading. In the process, a closed loop management model is formed. Service stream and data stream from port management, warehouse management and transportation management systems become highly integrated. The information in the process can be shared and therefore customer requirements can meet with a quick response.
Data reveal that after the project is put into use, overall logistics capacity can increase by 1.43 million mt per year. Circulation of inventory is improved, with high efficiency and lowers logistics costs ensured.
