Severstal North America, a division of the Russian steel producer Severstal, plans on January 25 next year to restart production at the coating line at Severstal Wheeling's Martins Ferry, Ohio-based plant.
"To reflect increased customer orders for coated light flat rolled steel products, the Martins Ferry, Ohio coating line of Severstal Wheeling will return to operation on January 25," reads the company's statement. The announcement follows the restart of the company's Yorkville, Ohio plant earlier this month.
The line will produce galvanized steel sheet from cold rolled steel produced at the Yorkville, as well as from other mills owned by Severstal North America.
Severstal Wheeling's coating capabilities include two separate galvanizing lines, each with specific width maximums (48 in. and 60 in.) and all utilizing the hot dip galvanizing process. The lines are capable of producing a total of 0.54 million metric tons of coated products. A part of this product is sold commercially, while the rest is shipped to Wheeling Corrugating Company for downstream application in the non-residential construction, agricultural and bridge-building markets.
