In the last week of April, a flurry of tornados hit the US Midwest and Southeast that not only caused millions in damage but also disrupted power to thousands of individuals. Severstal's North American steel mill in Columbus, Mississippi was affected by the latter situation and on Sunday, May 1 announced that certain operations had to be halted until power could be restored.

By Friday, Severstal reported that its Columbus plant has resumed its steelmaking and rolling operations. The plant's operation are currently running at a slightly reduced level due to certain power restrictions and are expected to come back to their full production level soon.
