Seoul hosts 39th IISI Annual Conference

Top executives from the world's leading steel trading companies gathered in Seoul, South Korea, for the 39th IISI (International Iron and Steel Institute) Annual Conference on October 2-5, 2005. Nearly 400 attendees representing 35 countries participated in what is regarded as the world steel summit. This marks the first IISI conference held in South Korea since the 22nd IISI Annual Conference in 1988. Among the topics discussed at the conference were the rapid growth of China's steel industry, the emergence of giant steelmakers such as Mittal Steel, and the intensified competition to acquire resources. As previously reported by SteelOrbis, the 38th IISI Annual Meeting and Conferences took place on October 3-6, 2004 in Istanbul, Turkey, under the coordination of Erdemir.
