Scrap prices to see a slackening .. Tayfun Senturk, Commercial Manager, Diler Dis Ticaret A.S.

Information reaching SteelOrbis can sometimes show differences in relation to the latest developments in the scrap market. The trade manager of Diler Foreign Trade Co. Ltd., Tayfun Sentürk is among those with different ideas and views of the current scrap market situation. In the following paragraphs, Tayfun Sentürk offers his views regarding the latest news and developments in the scrap market as posted by SteelOrbis and circulating in the markets. “I am not convinced that the recent news about scrap prices in Asia having risen is an accurate reflection of reality. Our sources, who are in fact from within the Asian market and particularly active in the purchasing and selling of scrap in Taiwan, in contrast to the information circulating in the market, are indicating that Asian scrap prices are not rising, but are showing a softening trend. According to information reaching us, Japan origin H2 scrap offered in the Taiwanese market has not risen to $300/mt. On the contrary, prices are showing that they have entered a reverse trend from the high levels which they reached a few weeks ago. And we are not expecting this to be a short term upward trend. And especially, if we consider the current developments in the market and the general supply/demand balance, I would still say that we can expect another fall in scrap prices of between $10-20/mt.
