Saudi Arabia’s South Steel Company orders wire rod and bar mill

German plantmaker SMS Meer has announced that it has received an order from Saudi Arabia-based steelmaker South Steel Company for the design and delivery of a combined wire rod and bar mill with a capacity of 500,000 mt per year, to be built in Jizan Economic City in southern Saudi Arabia.
 
The new combined mill scheduled to start production in mid-2013 comprises a 100 mt per hour walking beam furnace for billets with dimensions of 150 mm x 150 mm x 14 m. SMS Meer will also supply a 10-stand block for wire rod finishing.
 
SMS Meer has already supplied a mini-mill for this complex, comprising a steel plant with an annual production rate of 1 million mt and an integrated rolling mill for the production of rebars with an annual capacity of 500,000 mt.
