Universal Structural Mill (USM) of Steel Authority of India Ltd. (SAIL) IISCO Steel Plant has announced that it is the first domestic steelmaker to successfully roll NPB 750 mm parallel flange beams. The product is certified under BIS international standards.

The improved size availability provides more load capacity and cost savings in large infrastructure projects such as tall buildings, bridges, and factories. Previously, flange beams in India were only domestically produced in maximum NPB 600 mm. Any additional engineering requirements for projects had to be specially fabricated, and at times imported, which increased costs and lead times for construction projects.

USM began production of structural steel solutions in May 2017.
