SAIL uses sponge iron in its blast furnace

Indian steel producer Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) reportedly uses sponge iron in its four integrated plants due to shortage of imported coking coal. Back in March, SAIL had to stop production at certain mills due to shortage of the subject raw material. To compensate the situation, the company has started using sponge iron in its blast furnace. As previously reported by SteelOrbis, four mills of SAIL; Bhilai, Bokaro, Durgapur, and Rourkela tried using furnace oil and coal tar in their blast furnaces instead of coal back in April.
