Finnish steelmaker Rautaruukki (Ruukki) has announced that in 2010 it has spent a total of €29 million on environmental investments.  The most significant environmental investments were made in conjunction with blast furnace modernization at its Raahe Works in Finland.

During 2010, Ruukki reduced global carbon dioxide emissions by a total of 700,000 tons by recycling steel and mineral products. The aim is to make full use of by-products to improve Ruukki's material efficiency and reduce the carbon footprint.

In addition, in 2010, Ruukki continued developing energy-efficient products that reduce emissions, especially in construction, the lifting, handling and transportation equipment and wind power industries.
