Russia’s MMK to launch upgraded BF No. 2 in July

Russian steelmaker MMK Group has announced that it is successfully proceeding with the upgrade of its blast furnace (BF) No. 2, which has a designed daily output capacity of 3,800 mt of pig iron. The launch of the re-equipped facility is scheduled for July 2020.

Within the scope of the maintenance works program initiated in February this year, the company has proceeded with the upgrade of its BF No. 2, including the replacement of all elements of the old furnace, the modernization of the cooling system and the reconstruction of casthouses. The equipment is being overhauled with investments amounting to RUB 5 billion in order to increase productivity and to reduce coke use in melting.
