Russian mining and steel producing company Evraz Group has shared the details of its environmental strategy 2035 for its steel and mining operations in the Urals, Siberia and the Tula region. The strategy will contribute to the company’s plans to improve the environment in the regions in which it operates.

Accordingly, within the scope of the Russian government’s “Clean Air Project”, Evraz plans to cut its atmospheric emissions by 20 percent or 79,000 mt by 2035 and to reduce its carbon footprint by 20 percent by 2026, compared to the 2017 level. In the meantime, the company will invest over RUB 17 billion ($188.36 million) to build a sulfur gas purification complex at its Evraz ZSMK sintering plant in order to reduce emissions by 38,000 mt and to modernize its sintering equipment.

Regarding the protection of water resources, Evraz stated that it will focus on reusing water resources in its production processes and that it aims to reduce water pollution by 60 percent or 12,400 mt. As a result of all measures, freshwater usage will also be reduced by 31 percent to 56 million cubic meters.

Also, the company is committed to recycling and using 95 percent of general and metallurgical wastes and scrap.
