Russian crude steel output rises in first eight months

According to the State Statistics Committee of Russia (Russtat), in the January-August period of the current year Russia produced 211 million mt of coal and 68.4 million mt of iron ore - up 1.8 percent and 7.9 percent respectively compared to the same period last year. In the given period, Russia's metallurgical coke output went up by 2.5 percent year on year to 18.2 million mt.

In the first eight months of 2011, Russia registered a four percent increase in its crude steel production year on year to 45.7 million mt.

In January-August, Russia saw a 21.4 percent increase in its steel pipe production to 7 million mt and a 4.3 percent rise in its finished steel output to 39.4 million mt. On the other hand, the country's production of pig iron went down by 0.5 percent year on year to 31.8 million mt during the first eight months of 2011.
