Russia sees 77.7 percent increase in steel pipe consumption in Q1

According to the data issued by Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, the country's domestic consumption of steel pipes in the first quarter of 2010 saw an increase of 77.7 percent year on year to 2.054 million mt, due to the growth of demand from the oil and gas, engineering and construction industries. 
 
Meanwhile, in Q1 2010 deliveries of Russian origin pipes to the domestic market increased by 91.1 percent year on year to 1.919 million mt, while the shipments of foreign origin pipes went up by 13 percent year on year to 135,000 mt. 
 
As SteelOrbis previously reported, during the first quarter of this year Russia produced 2.1 million mt of steel pipes, registering a 46.5 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
