Russia increases scrap imports in January-May
According to data of the customs statistics, the imports of scrap to Russian Federation increased 44 percent year on year in January-May of 2006. However, year on year index shows a decrease in the scrap imports from 17,000 tons in May of 2005 to 16,000 tons in May of 2006. Kazakhstan came out as the main supplier of scrap to Russia, exporting about 52,000 tons of scrap to the country during the given period. Yet, the portion of imported scrap in overall Russian scrap consumption is still relatively small.
