Ukraine’s Ministry of Economic Development and Trade has stated that as of January 4, 2016, the Russian Federation has completely stopped the transit of goods from Ukraine through its territory. This decision is thought to have caused a complete halt to the traffic between the two countries.

Ukraine said in its statement that, by imposing this transit ban, Russia has violated its obligations within the framework of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the Commonwealth of Independent States Free Trade Area (CISFTA) agreement, signed in October 2011.
