Victor Makushin, president of Russia's largest scrap processing industrial group MAIR, has declared that Russia and Ukraine may start importing scrap in the very near future due to the drop seen in scrap collection volumes in these countries. If the scrap collection level continues to decrease in Ukraine, it is quite possible that in three to four years, the country will have to start importing scrap, Mr. Makushin clarified. He also emphasized that due to the continuous price rise for scrap in Russia – caused by difficulties in the collection of this raw material - domestic prices may surpass US domestic scrap prices within two to three years.
