Rio Tinto names Sandvik preferred supplier for massive expansion project

Sandvik AB, a Swedish high-technology engineering and steelmaking group, has announced that Australian iron ore giant Rio Tinto has confirmed it is proceeding with Sandvik Mining and Construction as the preferred supplier of mobile machines for its iron ore capacity expansion to 283 million mt per annum in 2013 in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.

This capacity expansion project includes the delivery and commissioning of 9 Sandvik mobile machines before the middle of 2013 at several port and mine sites in the Pilbara, and several machines in the year thereafter.
