Rhino Resource Partners acquires Elk Horn Coal Company

Lexington, Kentucky-based Rhino Resource Partners LP, which operates steam and metallurgical coal properties throughout the US, announced Friday that it has acquired the Elk Horn Coal Company, LLC for approximately $120 million in cash. Total annual production from Elk Horn’s various coal properties has averaged about 3.2 million tons over per year over the last five years. Elk Horn also has numerous coal deposits that it has not yet explored which Rhino Resources plans to develop in the near term.
