On March 23, 2008 Sheihk Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah officially inaugurated the RAK Steel factory in Al Ghail, located in the Ras Al Khaimah emirate of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The new mill is a joint venture company with the Ras Al Khaimah Investment Authority (RAKIA). The company was constructed at a total cost of $50 million in investments and is designed as an energy-efficient and environment-friendly mill.
The annual production capacity of the new mill is 500,000 metric tons of rebars of 8-40 mm in diameter and six-to-18 meters in length, which are to be produced in compliance with both British and American standards.
RAKIA CEO Dr. Khater Massaad said that RAK Steel will become the second largest producer of rebar in the UAE.
RAK Steel started commercial production of rebar in February 2008.
