Shanghai-based Pugang Steel, a subsidiary of Chinese steel giant Baosteel, has announced the successful start of production at its COREX iron smelting project, within the second phase of its relocation.
Pugang Steel's COREX iron smelting project has included the construction of a COREX C3000 blast furnace, with a designed annual hot metal output of 1.5 million mt. The blast furnace in question is one of two COREX C3000 blast furnaces in the world, and has been built by Shanghai Baoye Group Corp.
Pugang Steel's relocation from its previous site in Shanghai, which started in 2006, was intended to facilitate preparations for World Expo 2010, and also to save energy and reduce emissions.
