UK-based plantmaker Primetals Technologies has announced that the Arvedi Endless Strip Production (ESP) line it supplied last year for Chinese steel producer Rizhao Steel Group Co., Ltd has produced ultra-thin hot strip with a thickness of 0.6 mm, which is the first time strip this thin has been produced in the world.

Primetals states that the ultra-thin strip can cover more than 80 percent of regular cold-rolled thicknesses and widens Rizhao’s product range especially for cold-rolled substitutes. According to Primetals, this was achieved six months after the line started operation.

According to Primetals, the Arvedi ESP mill No. 4 is one of five casting and rolling mills that Rizhao ordered from Primetals Technologies. It is designed for an annual production of 1.7 million mt of high-quality, ultra-thin hot strip, in widths ranging from 900 mm to 1,300 mm. The maximum casting speed is seven meters per minute, and the coil weight is 28 metric tons.
