South Korean steel giant POSCO is planning to raise prices of its steel plates and hot rolled coil for Japan by up to Yen 5'000 per ton ($48) in the first quarter of 2005 as demand from China increases prices. It will increase prices of steel plates used in construction and other purposes, excluding those for ships, by Yen 3'000 to 5'000. Prices of hot rolled steel will be Yen 5'000 higher. POSCO is also planning to increase steel plate sales to Japan to 30'000 tons in the first quarter of 2005 compared with 20'000 tons in the last quarter of this year.
