South Korean steelmaker POSCO has announced that it has restarted operations at blast furnace No. 5 at its Gwangyang plant in South Korea after 112 days of refurbishment. Through the refurbishment, POSCO has increased the production volume of the Gwangyang blast furnace to five million mt per year.

Meanwhile, the lifespan of the blast furnace has also been extended to more than 15 years, while conversely saving energy due to the installation of a facility that completely shuts off steam generated from the blast furnace. Further enhancements have also been made to the overall performance of the generator that produces electricity itself by using the gas from the blast furnace.
