The Port of Mobile, Alabama announced the opening of its new steel coil handling facility, a $36 million project that is a joint venture between the port and Alabama Steel Terminals.

The facility will handle imports and exports of steel coils, “to and from a vessel, and then, on the terminal side, receiving or loading those coils back out to the vessel,” the port said in a statement. “We can take those coils from truck, barge, or rail, and load back to truck, or barge, or rail.”

The port expects to handle a million tons through the facility in a matter of years
