The administration of Port Hedland in Western Australia, which is the world’s largest iron ore export hub, has announced that it has resumed its operations after the cyclone threat passed.

Due to Tropical Cyclone Sean, the port administration had halted operations on Saturday, January 18. BHP Billiton, Rio Tinto and Fortescue are among major miners to carry out their export activities through the port in question.

In the meantime, BHP has recommenced vessel loadings, while Rio Tinto will assess the impact of flooding on its infrastructure to restart its operations and Fortescue stated that there had been no major damage across any of its Pilbara operations, according to a report by Reuters.

In December last year, iron ore shipments from Port Hedland decreased by 2.3 percent month on month and by 4.5 percent year on year, totaling 47,613,601 mt, as SteelOrbis reported previously.
